Anne-Sophie Gaudet is a muralist and public artist based in California. Her work is inspired by landscapes, native plants, wildlife, and the character of the places where she paints.
She creates bold, colorful murals using simplified shapes, large areas of color, and flowing compositions. Her goal is to make public spaces feel more welcoming, memorable, and connected to their surroundings.
Anne-Sophie grew up in France and moved to California in 2009. Before becoming a full-time muralist, she worked as an art teacher, where she developed a strong interest in community participation and creating art that is accessible to people of all ages.
For each project, she researches the local environment, history, and community, then transforms those elements into a contemporary design in her own visual style. She especially enjoys creating artwork that celebrates nature, movement, and everyday moments of connection.
My work is inspired by the natural world and by the specific character of each place where I create art. I am especially drawn to landscapes, native plants, wildlife, movement, and the small details that help people feel connected to their surroundings.
Visually, I simplify these elements into bold organic shapes, large areas of color, and flowing compositions. I am not trying to reproduce nature realistically. Instead, I look for its essential forms, rhythms, and relationships, then translate them into a contemporary visual language that is clear, colorful, and easy to read from a distance.
In public art, I want the work to feel rooted in its location while also bringing something joyful and unexpected to the space. My goal is to create murals that invite people to notice their environment differently, feel a stronger sense of belonging, and enjoy the places they move through every day.
I presented my solo show, Anza-Borrego Desert Wonders, at the Borrego Art Institute in October 2025.
